HENDERSON, Nev. – Tronox, a Henderson manufacturing plant presented a check to support the Basic Academy of International Studies Robotics Team. For the past five years, Tronox has continually supported the team as their primary sponsor.

The Basic Academy of International Studies Robotics Team teaches students the methods of building high-tech robots as well as teaching the engineering elements of robotics. Last year the team earned the Judges Award at the Nevada State VEX Robotics Championship, as well as the Excellence Award that qualified them to attend the C.R.E.A.T.E. US Open Robotics Championship.

“We are very appreciative of the support Tronox continues to provide for the Robotics Club,” said Mark L. Reed, academy instructor for AP Physics and Robotics. “My students continue to grow under this program and their quest for learning is inspiring. This is a perfect example of business and education coming together for the betterment of our community.”

“I think it’s important that clubs like the Basic Academy of International Studies Robotics Team continue to thrive in our school system because it teaches a technical discipline to the young people who will one day be entering the workforce,” said Rick Stater, Tronox plant manager. “We hope this will spark a lasting interest in the STEM fields.”
