Tronox Alkali provides trona-based products to a variety of industries such as glass manufacturing, water treatment, chemical manufacturing, pulp and paper, textiles, food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics. Product offerings include: caustic soda, s-carb®, sesqui™, soda ash, and sodium bicarbonate.
Tronox Alkali employs approximately 950 people.
Employees work at eight processing plants and an underground mining operation in Green River, Wyoming, that is 1,600 feet (488 meters) below the earth’s surface. The life of the mine is believed to be more than 100 years.
Since discovery of the trona beds in 1938, the Green River Basin has become the preferred source of high quality soda ash and other sodium products that ship worldwide.
The Green River operation has been mining trona for roughly seven decades and today produces more than 4 million short tons (3.63 million metric tons) annually. Tronox Alkali ships approximately 40,000 railcars and 5,000 truck orders of trona each year. Tronox Alkali has its corporate offices in Philadelphia.
Tronox Alkali operates two manufacturing sites. The Westvaco facility was established in 1948. It is the largest, and one of the lowest-cost, natural soda ash production plants in the world. The second site, the Granger facility, was acquired from Texas Gulf Soda Ash in 1999.
