News Release
Oklahoma City, April 19, 2006 - Tronox Incorporated's (NYSE: TRX, TRX.B) Technical Sales Service Laboratory (TSSL) in Oklahoma City received the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Region VI "Star of Excellence" recognition for its 2005 safety performance. This recognition is part of the "Stars Among Stars" program established by OSHA Region VI to recognize Voluntary Protection Program participants with Total recordable Case Incident Rates (TCIR) and Days Away, Restricted or Transfer case incident rates (DART) below the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) national average.
Tronox's TSSL team achieved the top "Stars Among Stars" designation - "Star of Excellence" - by achieving TCIR and DART rates more than 90% below the BLS national average in 2005.
"Our Oklahoma City TSSL team completed 2005 with zero reportable safety incidents, which is an outstanding achievement that requires a continuous focus on safety by all team members," said Tom Adams, Tronox chairman and chief executive officer. "Safety is an invaluable part of our culture at Tronox, and our goal is to send all employees and contractors home injury-free at the end of every day. I commend our TSSL employees for their strong safety performance and congratulate them for receiving this OSHA recognition."
In 1998, the TSSL became a Star worksite, OSHA's highest recognition under its Voluntary Protection Program. All Region VI Star worksites are eligible for the "Stars Among Stars" program; however, to even qualify for the program, a site must achieve TCIR and DART rates at least 50% below the BLS national average. Sites that reach this goal are designated as "Stars," and sites that have rates 75% below the BLS national average are designated "Super Stars." "Star of Excellence" is the top designation for companies with average rates 90% or more below the BLS national average.
