Tronox is actively exploring for mineral sand resources at Cooljarloo West, Jurien and Dongara. In the years ahead, as the remaining resources at Cooljarloo are extracted, these new projects will provide feedstock for our Chandala plant.
The Cooljarloo West Project is located approximately 175km north of Perth and covers 42 square kilometres of the Swan Coastal Plain. The project is composed of three deposits, Harrier, Kestrel and Woolka Road which contain a combined resource of 176 million tonnes at 1.8 per cent heavy minerals. Two new mining leases have been granted over this project.
The Jurien Project is located approximately 240 kilometres north of Perth and covers 210 square kilometres of the Swan Coastal Plain. Exploration is focused on and around the Jurien mine site which was first mined in the 1970’s by Western Mining Corporation. Tronox is aiming to expand the resource base (currently 26 million tonnes at 6 per cent heavy minerals).
The Dongara Project is located approximately 350 kilometres north of Perth and covers 151 square kilometres. The project is composed of six key deposits named Zeus, Heracles, Heracles North, Dionysus, Hades and Hebe. Tronox has also identified several other deposits that are now being evaluated. The current resource is approximately 156 million tonnes at 3.7% heavy mineral with an expected mine life of 7 – 15 years. The project has been approved under key state and federal legislation.
