Uerdingen, Germany

Tronox acquired the Uerdingen titanium dioxide (TiO₂) pigment plant from Bayer in 1998. The Tronox Uerdingen plant has an annual production capacity of 107,000 tonnes of titanium dioxide. The facility uses the sulfate process to produce pigments used in plastics, paint, paper and other specialty industries.

• TiO₂ operations began at Uerdingen in 1957.
• The plant has approximately 550 employees in manufacturing, marketing and support services.
• Approximately 50 contractors are employed on a daily basis.

Safety and Environmental Achievements

• The plant has had no reportable environmental incidents during the past 14 years.
• Tronox places high priority on safe working practices, risk management and full compliance with all applicable statutory requirements.  Safety standards are audited regularly internally and by external experts and authorities.
• The company and employees participate in the international Responsible Care® initiative.

Quality

• The facility has ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality management from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a global nongovernmental organization that promotes consistent standards and provides external oversight.

In the Community

• Tronox is located in the Bayer Uerdingen Chemical Park and is integrated into the common emergency management system for all chemical park partners.  This includes:

• Tronox is member of the German Chemical Industry Association, VCI, and the employers' liability insurance Association, BG-Chemie.
